uk2abroad is a service which enables you to
save around 60-80% on the cost of phone calls made and received
whilst abroad.
uk2abroad works in the following way:
- you purchase a package for the destination
you are travelling to. This consists of uk2abroad credit
and a local SIM card for that destination.
- before you leave the UK, you enter a code into your
UK phone which diverts all calls made to your UK number
onto uk2abroad. We then route all calls onto your local
SIM card. Thus anyone calling your UK mobile number gets
seamlessly routed onto your local SIM card - they will
be unaware that you are abroad, and you will save around
60-80% on the cost of roaming.
- you benefit from a local SIM card to make cheap local
calls, and you benefit from uk2abroad handling all your
international calls at a fraction of standard network
charges.
In order to use uk2abroad, you simply need
to meet the following two requirements:
- have a phone handset and contract/pay-as-you-go
SIM which supports call diverting (most contracts and some PAYG
deals support call diverting, although check with your network
customer services to be sure)
- have an unlocked phone handset (we can unlock most handset
makes free of charge)

Our 5 day and 10 day delivery packages will
arrive via Royal Mail first class recorded delivery in 5
and 10 days respectively from the time you place your order.
Our credit only packages are sent out via email approximately
24-48 hours after your order has been placed.
Some customers may already have SIMs for other
countries and just need to buy uk2abroad credit to keep
their UK mobile number and benefit from making cheaper outgoing
calls using uk2abroad. Select your destination from the
list of
destinations.
We source SIMs for as wide a range of countries
as possible at the lowest prices, but in some cases either
the costs of importing are just too high or the customer
demand is very low. We’d need to sell some SIMs at
£50-60 just to make our money back and we don’t
see the point in passing that cost on to the customer when
it is possible to buy the SIMs more cheaply at the destination.

Why
do I need a SIM card? Can’t I just keep my existing
UK one?
When you use uk2abroad, you are diverting
your UK mobile to us so that we can send the call on to
the local SIM card at a much lower cost than roaming. The
local SIM card is, therefore, a central element of the service.
It is also useful for making and receiving local calls and
giving you a local number at your destination.
Do
I need to buy a new SIM card each time I go abroad?
No, provided you’re SIM does not expire
you can use it each time you go abroad. Most SIMs need to
be topped up once every 6-12 months to keep them active.

SIM cards can be topped up at your destination
at the normal outlets- newsagents, petrol stations, supermarket,
mobile phone shops, etc.- and you will receive full details
with your package instructions.
uk2abroad credit lasts indefinitely provided
you make or receive a call at least once every 12 months,
and it can be used for any destination or refunded if you
no longer need it (except for the first £10).
Top-up online via the My
Account section anytime (you can access this
once you have made your purchase). If you will not be able
to get reliable internet access during your trip, we suggest
ordering some additional credit to cover all eventualities.

I’m
not sure I can use my phone with your service?
Take a look at the minimum
requirements above. All you need is an unlocked dual-band
or tri-band phone (depending on where you are visiting -
see the individual country pages) that supports call diverting.
If you are travelling to more than one destination,
you will need a separate local SIM for each country. When
you arrive in your new destination, send us a text message
saying "ROAM the-full-international-number-of-your-SIM"
You need to have an unlocked phone to use
our service. Unlocking allows you to use your mobile phone
on any network (for the purposes of our service, this allows
you to use a local SIM card).
Some mobile operators lock their phones so
you can only use them on their network. This is to prevent
people moving between networks and has been frowned upon
by the European Commission as ‘anti-competitive’.
We provide a free unlocking service for some
major handsets. For handsets we can't unlock, many online
services offer unlocking for a small charge, or you can
take your phone to your local mobile phone shop.
Absolutely. In fact, your mobile network
is obliged to do it for you, although they do charge. We
offer an unlocking service for Nokia phones - other makes of handset can be unlocked at local mobile phone stores. Please email us with any queries.

3. Set up
your account online
4. Enter your activation code into your phone before you
leave
5. Swap your UK SIM card with your local SIM when you arrive
at your destination
When you have bought and received your uk2abroad
package, you will need to set up your account online (which
only takes a couple of minutes).
You need to make sure you have an unlocked
phone and a contract/PAYG which supports call diverting.
Then when you're at the airport or about to
leave the country, you enter a code into your phone which
diverts all your calls to us.
When you arrive you simply put your local
SIM in your phone.
